Not much to say today, the ride was good until it started to rain. It came so fast I didn’t have time to put on my rain suit. Traveled the back roads again through some nice farm country. A real change today was that it got cooler as the day progressed.

These small lakes were everywhere.

48 states day 4. Vicksburg, MS

After the first hour today it turned into the best riding day I have ever had! The first hour was getting out of New Orléans and going north back to Mississippi. Once in Mississippi I changed the setting on the Nav system from fastest to scenic  and got off the interstate and on to the back roads. I’m sure it cost me an extra hour of riding but it was worth it.

Todays ride ended at the Vicksburg National Military Park. This is the location of one of the longest battles of the Civil War. The reason was simple, if you control Vicksburg you control passage on the Mississippi River. The park is one of the most beautiful places I have been. It is a well planned out park with a winding tour road that takes about an hour to drive. Instead of going into a lot of details I will suggest you go to their website at http://www.nps.gov/vick.

i walked around the French Quarter today and had the best meal. The restaurant is called Felix’s. I had their sampler platter which had Seafood Gumbo, Jambalaya, and Shrimp Étouffée. Add to that a nice local ale and you have a great meal.

Here are a few pictures.

Alabama, Central Time Zone, USS Alabama

Nice ride today except for the 95F (25C) heat! It’s not bad at 70mph but going through towns is no fun.

Crossed into Alabama and the Central Time Zone today. I made a stop at the USS Alabama museum which was very nice.
